Mastering The Art Of Packing Fragile Items

July 30, 2024

Pack like a pro!

1. Gather the Right Materials

Before you start packing, make sure you have all the necessary supplies:

- Sturdy Boxes: Use new, double-walled boxes for extra strength.

- Packing Paper: Plain paper is preferable over newspaper to avoid ink stains.

- Bubble Wrap: Provides cushioning and protection against impact.

- Packing Peanuts: Great for filling empty spaces and adding an extra layer of protection.

- Tape: High-quality packing tape to secure your boxes.

- Markers: For labeling boxes with “Fragile” and the contents inside.

2. Prepare Your Workspace

Set up a large, clean, and clutter-free area where you can safely wrap and pack your items. This will help you stay organized and prevent accidental damage.

 3. Wrap Each Item Individually

- Glassware and Stemware: Wrap each piece individually with packing paper, then add a layer of bubble wrap. Secure with tape and place them in the box standing up.

- Plates: Wrap each plate in packing paper and place them vertically in the box. Add a layer of bubble wrap or packing paper between each plate to prevent them from clinking together.

- Vases and Figurines: Fill the inside of vases and hollow figurines with crumpled packing paper. Wrap them in several layers of bubble wrap, securing with tape.

 4. Pack the Box

- Layering: Start by adding a layer of packing peanuts or crumpled paper at the bottom of the box. Place heavier items on the bottom and lighter ones on top.

- Fill Empty Spaces: Use packing peanuts or crumpled paper to fill any gaps. This prevents items from shifting during transit.

- Top Layer: Add a final layer of packing material on top before sealing the box.

5. Seal and Label

Use high-quality packing tape to seal the box securely. Make sure to reinforce the bottom and top seams. Clearly label the box with “Fragile” on all sides and indicate the contents. This helps movers handle the box with care and ensures it’s placed in the right room at your new home.

6. Special Considerations

- Electronics: Use the original packaging if available. If not, wrap them in anti-static bubble wrap and place them in a box with plenty of cushioning.

- Artwork and Mirrors: Use special picture boxes and corner protectors. Wrap the artwork or mirror in bubble wrap and secure it with tape.

7. Trust the Professionals

Sometimes, it’s best to leave it to the experts. At S.B. Taylor Transport, our professional packers are trained to handle fragile items with the utmost care. We use high-quality packing materials and proven techniques to ensure your belongings arrive safely.
